Harry Potter Audiobooks Total Length: Dale, Fry and Full Cast
Harry Potter audiobooks total length for all seven books: Jim Dale 116 hrs 21 mins, Stephen Fry 124 hrs 36 mins, Audible full cast 114 hrs 36 mins.

All seven Harry Potter books add up to 116 hrs 21 mins in the Jim Dale recording, 124 hrs 36 mins in the Stephen Fry recording and 114 hrs 36 mins in the Audible full-cast production. Each of those is the sum of the seven per-book runtimes on Audible, as listed on 1 October 2026, so a shop page, a box set or an older article that shows a slightly different number is usually counting a different package or a different year, not a different performance.
The sources for the Dale and full-cast runtimes are Audible's J.K. Rowling author page; the Fry runtimes come from Audible's Stephen Fry listings.
- Jim Dale: 116 hrs 21 mins
- Stephen Fry: 124 hrs 36 mins
- Audible full cast: 114 hrs 36 mins
For which voice suits which listener, my Dale or Fry review is the place for that. This page sticks to hours.
How long is each book?
If you want to budget one book at a time, these are the listed runtimes (Audible listings, read 1 October 2026). Each line gives Jim Dale first, then Stephen Fry, then the full cast.
- Book 1, Sorcerer's Stone / Philosopher's Stone: 8 hrs 18 mins, 8 hrs 25 mins, 8 hrs 41 mins
- Book 2, Chamber of Secrets: 9 hrs 2 mins, 9 hrs 43 mins, 9 hrs 37 mins
- Book 3, Prisoner of Azkaban: 11 hrs 49 mins, 12 hrs 3 mins, 11 hrs 32 mins
- Book 4, Goblet of Fire: 20 hrs 36 mins, 20 hrs 54 mins, 20 hrs 13 mins
- Book 5, Order of the Phoenix: 26 hrs 28 mins, 29 hrs 1 min, 26 hrs 39 mins
- Book 6, Half-Blood Prince: 18 hrs 32 mins, 20 hrs 31 mins, 17 hrs 24 mins
- Book 7, Deathly Hallows: 21 hrs 36 mins, 23 hrs 59 mins, 20 hrs 30 mins
Order of the Phoenix is the longest book in all three recordings: 26 hrs 28 mins for Dale, 29 hrs 1 min for Fry and 26 hrs 39 mins for the full cast. The first two books are the quick ones in every version, each under 10 hours for Dale and the full cast and just over 9 hours for Fry's second.
The full-cast production is listed as unabridged. Audible announced it on 5 August 2025, and Pottermore Publishing's release schedule shows it arriving one book at a time, from Sorcerer's Stone on 4 November 2025 to Deathly Hallows on 12 May 2026. All seven are out now, so the full-cast total above is a complete one. Audible says the production uses more than 200 actors in more than 500 roles.

Why the total you saw does not match
Say you saw 117 hours, or 124 hours 56 minutes, or a figure a minute off from the one above. These are the four common reasons. Each is a difference in how something was packaged or listed, not a different performance.
- A rounded headline. Audible's own newsroom describes the Dale series as 117 hours. That is the rounded version of the 116 hrs 21 mins you get from adding the current listings.
- A 2007 figure. A city newsletter from August 2007, reproducing Random House Audio release material, gives the Dale series as 117 hrs 4 mins, under the Listening Library name. That was a 2007 physical-release figure, so it will not equal today's digital sum, and it should not be expected to.
- A CD box set. Bloomsbury's Harry Potter: The Complete Audio Collection, the Stephen Fry CD set of more than 100 discs, states a total running time of 124 hrs 56 mins. That is 20 minutes above the 124 hrs 36 mins you get from adding the Audible listings.
- One-minute rounding. Pottermore's page for Philosopher's Stone shows 506 minutes, which is 8 hrs 26 mins, while Audible shows 8 hrs 25 mins for the same book. Pottermore's pages for Chamber of Secrets (583 minutes, or 9 hrs 43 mins) and Goblet of Fire (1,255 minutes, or 20 hrs 55 mins) follow the same pattern against Audible's 20 hrs 54 mins for Goblet.
If a page gives you a number within a few minutes of one of the totals at the top, treat the gap as rounding or packaging and use the listing in front of you.

Which edition, which country
Pottermore Publishing, the publisher of these recordings, describes Jim Dale as the narrator of the North American version and Stephen Fry as the narrator for the UK and the rest of the English-language world. The US titles use "Sorcerer's Stone"; the UK titles use "Philosopher's Stone".
For the Fry recording, the runtimes match between Audible US and Audible UK for the books listed on both: Philosopher's Stone at 8 hrs 25 mins, Chamber of Secrets at 9 hrs 43 mins, Prisoner of Azkaban at 12 hrs 3 mins, Goblet of Fire at 20 hrs 54 mins, Order of the Phoenix at 29 hrs 1 min and Deathly Hallows at 23 hrs 59 mins. Pottermore also ran a 2026 campaign that temporarily offered both first-book editions internationally, so what a store shows you can depend on the date and the platform.
When you need the exact figure for your edition, read the runtime on the storefront page for the one you are about to buy.
One more thing to watch for: Audible's complete Harry Potter collection page also holds extra Wizarding World titles, including The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, Harry Potter: A History of Magic and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A total for that whole collection is therefore not a seven-novel total.
How long at faster speeds?
If you play audiobooks faster than normal, these are the totals divided by the playback speed. This is arithmetic on the listed totals; the recordings keep their listed runtimes.
- 1.25x: Jim Dale 93 hrs 5 mins, Stephen Fry 99 hrs 41 mins, full cast 91 hrs 41 mins
- 1.5x: Jim Dale 77 hrs 34 mins, Stephen Fry 83 hrs 4 mins, full cast 76 hrs 24 mins
- 2x: Jim Dale 58 hrs 10 mins, Stephen Fry 62 hrs 18 mins, full cast 57 hrs 18 mins

Borrowing instead of buying
Both narrator editions appear in the Libby and OverDrive catalogues, and what you can borrow depends on each library's licences and holdings. In the US, Libby lists the Stephen Fry edition of Philosopher's Stone, released 18 April 2024 by Pottermore Publishing. In the UK, Libby lists Stephen Fry editions such as Chamber of Secrets. To check your own library, search Libby by title and narrator.

Common questions about Harry Potter audiobook length
What is the longest audiobook ever?
For Harry Potter, it is Order of the Phoenix in every recording listed on Audible: 26 hrs 28 mins for Dale, 29 hrs 1 min for Fry and 26 hrs 39 mins for the full cast. That is the longest book in the series in all three. I am not ranking audiobooks outside this series here.
How many hours is a 300 page audiobook?
It depends on the narrator's pace and on the book, so the listed runtime is the number to go by rather than the page count. My review of the 11/22/63 audiobook length shows what budgeting a long listen by its hours looks like.
How long is the Harry Potter full cast audiobook in total?
It is 114 hrs 36 mins, the sum of the seven listings on Audible as read on 1 October 2026. The full-cast production is listed as unabridged, and the book runtimes run from 8 hrs 41 mins for the first book to 26 hrs 39 mins for Order of the Phoenix.
How long is the Stephen Fry Harry Potter audiobook?
On Audible the seven books add up to 124 hrs 36 mins. Bloomsbury's CD box set of the Fry recording states 124 hrs 56 mins, which is 20 minutes more.
How many hours is Harry Potter at 1.5x?
At 1.5x the series takes 77 hrs 34 mins in the Dale recording, 83 hrs 4 mins in the Fry recording and 76 hrs 24 mins in the full-cast production. So, roughly 76 to 83 hours depending on which one you pick.
The number to go by
Pick the total that matches the edition and the shop in front of you, and read a gap of a few minutes between two pages as rounding or packaging. If you are still choosing between the recordings and want a read on how they differ in the ear, my Dale or Fry review compares the two narrators; this page only keeps the hours straight.
